The Catechumenate (or RCIA) is the process parishes use to prepare seekers for full membership in the Catholic faith community.  The RCIA is specifically geared for those who have never been baptized, those baptized in another Christian tradition, or those baptized as Catholics but never celebrated First Communion or Confirmation.

The basic process gradually introduces aspects of Catholic beliefs and practices to adults (and children above the age of 7 years old) by means of an extended period of reflection, prayer, instruction, discernment, and formation within a welcoming, supportive community. The RCIA relies on volunteers to serve as sponsors, team members, and guest speakers to presenter some aspect of Catholic faith or practice.
